Futura (born Leonard Hilton McGurr) is an American graffiti pioneer known for introducing abstraction to street art.[3][6][11] He was formerly known as "Futura 2000."
He is famous for "abstract graffiti"—using fine aerosol lines, "crane" strokes, and "atomic" circular shapes rather than traditional lettering.[3] His work often feels cosmic or futuristic.
The Pointman is Futura's iconic character—a robotic, alien-like figure with an elongated head, often depicted in his paintings and sculptures as a symbol of the unknown.
In 1981, he toured with the punk band The Clash, painting live backdrops on stage during their concerts. He also designed the sleeve notes for their album Combat Rock.
He originally tagged as "Futura 2000" but shortened his professional artist name to "Futura" in the late 90s, though both are used interchangeably in the market.
He has highly coveted collaborations with Nike (SB Dunk), Supreme, Off-White (Virgil Abloh), BMW, Uniqlo, and Louis Vuitton.
